Benefits Of Ayatul Kursi

Ayatul Kursi is one of the verses of Surah Al-Baqarah and the greatest ayah in the Quran as mentioned in one of the hadiths below. The ayah mentions Allah’s greatness and some of Allah’s attributes and qualities. We are advised to recite it in the morning, the evening, before going to bed and after the five daily obligatory prayers. By doing so, Allah will protect us from evils and Shaytan, Allah is The Protector and All-Watcher, and it will lead us to enter Paradise.

“Allah! There is no God but He, the Ever Living, the One Who sustains and protects all that exists. Neither slumber nor sleep overtakes Him. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is he that can intercede with Him except with His Permission? He knows what happens to them in this world, and what will happen to them in the Hereafter. And they will never encompass anything of His Knowledge except that which He wills. His Throne extends over the heavens and the earth, and He feels no fatigue in guarding and preserving them. And He is the Most High, the Most Great.” (2:255)

Narrated Abdullah bin Masud: “Allah has not created in the heavens nor in the earth what is more magnificent than Ayat Al-Kursi.” Sufyan said: “Because Ayat Al-Kursi is the Speech of Allah, and Allah’s Speech is greater than Allah’s creation of the heavens and the earth.” (At-Tirmidhi, 2884)

Moreover, Ubayy b. Ka’b said: Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said: “O Abu’ al-Mundhir, do you know the verse from the Book of Allah which, according to you, is the greatest? I said: Allah and His Messenger (ﷺ) know best. He again said: Abu’l-Mundhir, do you know the verse from the Book of Allah which, according to you, is the greatest? I said: Allah, there is no god but He, the Living, the Eternal. Thereupon he struck me on my breast and said: May knowledge be pleasant for you, O Abu’l-Mundhir!” (Muslim, 810)

Recite Ayatul Kursi before going to bed

Narrated Muhammad bin Sirin: Abu Huraira said, “Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ)  put me in charge of the Zakat of Ramadan (i.e. Zakat-ul-Fitr). Someone came to me and started scooping some of the foodstuff (Zakat) with both hands. I caught him and told him that I would take him to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) .” Then Abu Huraira told the whole narration and added “He (i.e. the thief) said, ‘Whenever you go to your bed, recite the Verse of “Al-Kursi” (2:255) for then a guardian from Allah will be guarding you, and Satan will not approach you till dawn.’ “ On that the Prophet (ﷺ) said, “He told you the truth, though he is a liar, and he (the thief) himself was the Satan.” (Bukhari, 3275)

Note: Before going to bed, we are encouraged to recite Ayatul Kursi, recite Surat Al-Ikhlas (112), Surat Al-Falaq (113) and Surat An-Nas (114) and wipe over our body. The Prophet (ﷺ) used to do that three times. Moreover, the Prophet (ﷺ) taught his daughter Fatima (AS) to say Subhan Allah (33x), Al-hamdulillah (33x) and Allahu Akbar (33x) before going to bed. There are also some supplications from the sunnah that we are advised to recite before going to sleep. Furthermore, it is sunnah also to recite Surah Al-Mulk, Surah Sajdah and Amanar Rusul at night.

Recite Ayatul Kursi in the morning and evening

Narrated Abu Hurairah: that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “Whoever recites Ha Mim Al-Mu’min - up to - To Him is the return (40:1-3) and Ayat Al-Kursi when he reaches (gets up in) the morning, he will be protected by them until the evening. And whoever recites them when he reaches the evening, he will be protected by them until the morning.” (At-Tirmidhi, 2879)

Note: Ayatul Kuris is included in the morning Adhkar and evening Adhkar which we are encouraged to implement in our daily routine.

Recite Ayatul Kursi after the obligatory prayer

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Whoever reads Ayatul Kursi at the end of (after) each mandatory prayer, nothing prevents him from entering paradise except death.” (Sunan an-Nasai, 9848 and al-Tabarani, 7532.)

As mentioned above hadiths, Allah assigns a guard to protect us and Shaytan will not come near us until dawn, when we recite Ayatul Kursi before going to bed. Moreover, reciting Ayatul Kursi after the obligatory prayers, Allah will grant us Paradise.

May Allah protect us and guide us to the straight path.
