Dua for traveling

Ibn Umar (Allah be pleased with them) reported that "Whenever Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) mounted his camel while setting out on a journey, he glorified Allah (uttered Allah-o-Akbar) thrice, and then said:

"Allah is the Most Great. Allah is the Most Great. Allah is the Most Great. Glory is to Him Who has subjected this to us, and we were not able to do it. And, surely, to our Lord are we returning. O Allah, I ask You in this journey of mine from the righteousness and piety and actions that which you are pleased with. O Allah, ease for us the path, and make near for us the distance of the land. O Allah, You are the companion in the journey, and the caretaker for the family. O Allah, I seek refuge with You from hardships of the journey, gloominess of the sights, and finding of evil changes in property and family on return. We are returning, repentant, worshiping our Lord. and praising Him."" (Muslim,  1342)

Dua upon mounting an animal or any mode of transportation

Ali bin Rabi’ah said: "I witnessed Ali having an animal brought to him to ride. When he placed his foot in the stirrup he said:

"With the Name of Allah. Praise is to Allah. Glory is to Him Who has provided this for us though we could never have had it by our efforts. Surely, unto our Lord we are returning. Praise is to Allah. Praise is to Allah. Praise is to Allah. Allah is the Most Great. Allah is the Most Great. Allah is the Most Great. Glory is to You. O Allah, I have wronged my own soul. Forgive me, for surely none forgives sins but You."

"Then he laughed. So I said: 'O Commander of the Believer! What caused you to laugh?' He said: 'I saw the Messenger of Allah do as I did, then he (ﷺ) laughed, so I said, 'What cause you to laugh?' He said: 'Indeed, your Lord is very pleased with His worshiper when he says: "O my Lord, forgive me my sins, indeed, no one other than You forgives sins."" (At-Tirmidhi, 3446)

Intention

Niyyah for Umrah

"O Allah, here I am to perform Umrah"

Note: The intention to perform Umrah is made before the person crosses the Miqat. The following hadith mentioned the places of Miqat. It was narrated that Jabir said: "The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) addressed us and said: 'The Talbiyah of the people of Al-Madinah begins at Dhul-Hulaifah. The Talbiyah of the people of Sham begins at Juhfah. The Talbiyah of the people of Yemen begins at Yalamlam. The Talbiyah of the people of Najd begins at Qarn. The Talbiyah of the people of the east begins at Dhat 'Irq.' Then he turned to face the (eastern) horizon and said: 'O Allah, make their hearts steadfast.'" ( Ibn Majah, 2915). Ihram is two pieces of white fabric that men wear when performing Hajj or Umrah. As for the women, they wear regular clothes of their choice according to the Islamic values and the women in Ihram should not wear a niqab nor gloves. Before entering in the state of Ihram, the person should perform personal hygiene such as clipping the nails, trimming the mustache and shaving the armpit and the pubic hair and to purify oneself by performing ghusl. Even menstruating women or women who are experiencing childbirth bleeding are encouraged to take a ghusl. The person makes the intention of performing Umrah.

Talbiyah of Umrah

Narrated Ibn Umar: "I heard Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) , while he was in the state of ihram and his hair was stuck together with gum, saying:

لَبَّيْكَ اللَّهُمَّ لَبَّيْكَ، لَبَّيْكَ لاَ شَرِيكَ لَكَ لَبَّيْكَ، إِنَّ الْحَمْدَ وَالنِّعْمَةَ لَكَ وَالْمُلْكَ لاَ شَرِيكَ لَكَ

"I respond to Your call O Allah, I respond to Your call, and I am obedient to Your orders, You have no partner, I respond to Your call All the praises and blessings are for You, All the sovereignty is for You, And You have no partners with you"

He did not add anything to those words.""(Bukhari, 5915 and 1549)

Note: Once entered in the state of Ihram, say Talbiyah frequently individually, the men are recommended to raise their voice when saying the Talbiyah. The person should also increase the remembrance of Allah and make dua or read the Quran. The person in the state of ihram is prohibited to do certain acts such as hunting animals, being intimate, getting married, proposing or arranging a marriage.

Tawaf

Say the takbir,

Allah is the Most Great

Note: Once the individual enters in ihram and makes the niyyah for Umrah, he or she will go to the Al-Masjid Al-Haram and circumambulates around the Kabah seven times. Narrated Salim that his father said: "I saw Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) arriving at Mecca; he kissed the Black Stone Corner first while doing Tawaf and did ramal in the first three rounds of the seven rounds (of Tawaf)." (Bukhari 1603)

Moreover, Narrated Ibn Abbas: "The Prophet (ﷺ) performed Tawaf of the Kabah riding a camel, and every time he came in front of the Corner (having the Black Stone), he pointed towards it with something he had with him and said Takbir." (Bukhari, 1613)

Begin the tawaf by the Black Stone, you can touch it, kiss it or point at it and say Allahu Akbar as mentioned above hadith.

Dua between the Yemeni corner and the black stone

"Our Lord, grant us the good things in this world and the good things in the next life and save us from the punishment of the Fire."

Note: Narrated Abdullah ibn as-Sa'ib: "I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say between the two corners: O Allah, bring us a blessing in this world and a blessing in the next and guard us from punishment of Hell." (Abi Dawud,  1892)

"When Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) performed Tawaf of the Kabah for Hajj or Umrah, he used to do Ramal during the first three rounds, and in the last four rounds he used to walk; then after the Tawaf he used to offer two rakats and then performed Tawaf between Safa and Marwa." (Bukhari, 1616) Only men are recommended to jog in the first three rounds. Busy yourself doing Dhikr and supplications during tawaf and seek Allah's forgiveness and mercy, after tawaf pray two rakats behind Maqam Ibrahim and drink zamzam.

Perform Salah after tawaf

After completing the tawaf, go the Maqam Ibrahim and recite the following verse

"And take, (O believers), from the standing place of Ibrahim a place of prayer."

It was narrated from Jabir bin Abdullah that when the Messenger of Allah came to Maqam Ibrahim he recited: "And take, (O believers), from the standing place of Ibrahim a place of prayer." Then he prayed two Rakahs reciting the Opening of the Book (Al-Fatihah) said: "Say: O you disbelievers" and "Say: He is Allah, (the) One." Then he went back to the Corner and touched it, then he went out to As-Safa." (An-Nasai,  2963)

Note: it is sunnah to pray two rakats after performing the tawaf, during the prayer the prophet used to recite surah Al-Kafiroon on the first rakat and Al-Iklas on the second rakat. Ibn Abbas narrated that: The Messenger of Allah said: "The Black Stone descended from the Paradise, and it was more white than milk, then it was blackened by the sins of the children of Adam." (At-Tirmidhi, 877).

After the two rakats, the individual should drink Zamzam and go back to the corner and touch or point towards it.

Note: it is sunnah to drink Zamzam after performing tawaf and two rakats prayer. It was narrated that Jabir bin Abdullah said: "I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say: 'The water of Zamzam is for whatever it is drunk for.'" (Ibn Majah, 3062)

Moreover, It was narrated that Muhammad bin Abdur-Rahman bin Abu Bakr said: "I was sitting with Ibn Abbas, and a man came to him and he said: 'Where have you come from?' He said: 'From Zamzam.' He said: ‘Did you drink from it as you should?' He said: 'is that?' He said: 'When you drink from it, turn to face the Qiblah and mention the name of Allah, drink three draughts and drink your fill of it. When you have finished, then praise Allah.' The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'The sign (that differentiates) between us and the hypocrites is that they do not drink their fill from Zamzam.'" (Ibn Majah,  3061)

Sa'i between Safa and Marwah

Narrated Nafi: Ibn Umar said, "When Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)  performed the first Tawaf he did Ramal in the first three rounds and then walked in the remaining four rounds (of Tawaf of the Ka`ba), where as in performing Tawaf between Safa and Marwa he used to run in the midst of the rainwater passage," I asked Nafi`, "Did `Abdullah (bin `Umar) use to walk steadily on reaching the Yemenite Corner?" He replied, "No, unless people were crowded at the Corner; otherwise he would not leave it without touching it." (Bukhari, 1644)

After performing tawaf and praying two rakats,  proceed to safa which is the starting point. When you reach the hill of Al Safa recite this verse once,

"Indeed, as-Safa and al-Marwah are among the symbols of Allah.” (2:158)

Then,

"I begin by that which Allah began"

Ascend As-Safa until you can visualize the Kabah, face it then recite the following dua,

"Allah is the Most Great, Allah is the Most Great, Allah is the Most Great. None has the right to be worshiped but Allah alone, Who has no partner, His is the dominion and His is the praise, and He is Able to do all things. None has the right to be worshiped but Allah alone, He fulfilled His Promise, He aided His slave, and He alone defeated Confederates."

Make dhikr and any supplication you want then proceed to Mount Al-Marwa. On your way there keep remembering Allah and making dua. Once at mount Al-Marwah, ascend it, face the Kabah and recite the dua above. Now you have completed one of the seven rounds. Go between Safa and Marwa seven times (starting at Al-Safa and ending at Al-Marwa)

Shaving or cut the hair

Once finished the Sa’i, the men are required to shave or cut their hair. Women are required to shorten their hair, but not shave it.

Alhamdulilahi you have completed your Umrah, may Allah accept it.
